Can Mayor Hagedorn Start an Electric Car Revolution?

Subaru electric car engine: a first generation design shows what can be done quickly by car engineers. As consumers start using more electric cars, designs and technology will improve quickly.

Mayor Edward Hagedorn, the active environmental mayor of Puerto Princesa City in Palawan, wants to develop a completely green city. His idea is to use all the available technology and green trends to build a better city. Mayor Hagedorn understands how difficult it is to really make a difference. In the transportation area, Hagedorn is pushing for electric vehicles. He may be early in his idea to have the first city with complete electric transportation system. But maybe he can succeed with help. There are a few companies and governments testing comprehensive electric car services. The Israeli company Better Place, has taken on the mission of developing and running a car battery replacement service. A few car companies, such as Renault and Nissan, are offering electric and hybrid cars which do not use fossil fuel to drive the wheels. This is a first generation effort, so we can expect more soon.

What mayor Hagedorn needs is more time and more cooperation. He needs time to get his ideas developed. The role as mayor and government official is important here. The mayor needs to show the citizens and government officials how to develop in an ecologically responsible way. He also need to convince people, some face-to-face, that his ideas are both responsible and effective. In transportation, Puerto Princesa City residents may want fast cars and cheap small ones, so more people can have cars. But air, water and ground pollution which comes years after gas cars are used are not something that is easy to show. Just like the British Petroleum (BP) oil spill in the gulf of Mexico today, how do citizens understand the impact of oil dependence decades before it becomes a problem? It comes with information and discussion. So give mayor Hagedorn time, speak with him and get information.

He needs cooperation from Puerto Princesa City citizens, from government officials and private companies. His ideas are good, so joining his cause will be a good way to make a positive change. Puerto Princesa City will benefit from mayor Hagedorn's idea in the near future. Once ecotourism is established and the city is known, tourists will come. In the long run, city residents will benefit from a clean city with better ecology. Give Ed Hagedorn your vote. He deserves a chance to make a change.
